My boyfriend's mom brought me this cream from Colombia for skin discoloration. It's name is "Pomada Pena" and it contains 3 g. of Hydroquinone for every 100 g. I have an uneven patch of skin on my lower back and I'm wondering how long it will take for the cream to work? I'm also concerned about the risks of using it. How often should I apply it to my skin?

I looked this product up and it is approved, but it doesn't say anything about how often I should use it.

Using the New Zealand Dermatological Society Incorporated's (DermNet NZ) search results, there is no reference to the brand, "Pomada Pena." However, Hydroquinone (bleaching cream) is referenced to.

Before you get your hopes up too high, I suggest you consult with a Dermatologist to determine if this discoloration is a result being left on the skin after an underlying skin disease has healed or birth mark, or underlying disease e.g. Addison's disease.

Nevertheless, the recommend usage is far too extensive to list here. Therefore, I am leaving you with a link to DermNet NZ's article, Hydroquinone, written by one of DermNet NZ's staff writer, Vanessa Ngan: http://www.dermnetnz.org/treatments/hydroquinone.html

Hope this answers your question!

Well first of all I would really find out about this cream before I started using it. I wouldn't trust something that came from a foreign country unless it was FDA approved. I sell skincare products but they are FDA approved products. You don't want to use something on your skin that breaks you out or just doesn't do anything at all!

if the discolored patch of skin is from tanning...get it checked out...don't use this unknown cream...if it developed on its own it will go away with dandruff shampoo.
