You never self treat a third degree burn for one thing if it's a real third degree burn you would be in more pain than you'd ever been in and it needs to be treated by a doctor. You don't have any skin left with a third degree burn and usually have to have a graft. There is a VERY high likely hood of infection to the point where you could use your leg if not treated promptly. Don't try it, go to the doctor or hospital it's your best bet. for a healthy future. My father was in the NY FD for thirty years and taught us how to teat burns, No matter the severity you never but something on it for at least the first 15 minutes to half hour. You should run it under COLD water until it no longer burns than if its' a first or second degree burn and you don't want to go to the hospital get some silver dine cream or something made especially for burns. Don't cover a really bad burn with anything because it might stick to the skin and make it worse when it has to come off. Call the EMTS for a bad burn they now how to treat it until you get to a doctor. I hope this helps to keep you safe and healthy.

Best thing to do is avoid excessive sun exposure for future reference, but if your a sun worshipper a good rule to follow is the use of vitamin E moisturizer with Aloe Vera in plant form.
Simply break off a piece a clear sticky substance Will secrete from the plant and apply generously over burned or affected areas. It may sound weird but Aloe Vera works best in it's purest form.

As some others have posted, Mederma is very good. It is also very expensive and many national pharmacy chains have their own store brands that are just as effective with a substantial savings.
