Alexia is associated with damage to specific areas of the brain. I don't think issues like alexia (and related disorders, like aphasia) are the result of mental health issues.

The third link has a breakdown of different types of alexia, and all include physical causation due to structural damage in the brain.

Now, what that could mean is that the damage in the brains of the individuals you selected as examples contributed to the depression and anxiety, because of how the brain was effected. And it's possible that those symptoms emerged before the alexia.

"Alexia typically occurs following damage to the left hemisphere of the brain or to the areas of the occipital and temporal lobes, [...] Alexia can also occur following damage to the inferior frontal lobe, especially Broca's area."

"Temporal lobe tumors that extend posteriorly may cause alexia and anomia. Tumors in the temporal lobes usually cause complex partial seizures that may cause disorders of awareness and abnormal perceptions."
