I haven't done my bellybutton but when I got my cartilage done I couldn't sleep on that side of my head for about a month and a half. I also couldn't touch it straight on for about 2 months. I do have a condition that makes my pain receptors more sensitive but I don't really think that was part of it. Secondly don't get it done at one of those places at the mall. They pierce it at 20 gauge and the smallest you can buy is 18 but you can hardly find them in the stores. I'm pretty sure if you go to a tattoo/piercing parlor they'll use a larger gauge needle and you won't have to progressively shove bigger things into your piercing. The standard size for the cartilage bars etc found in stores is 14. Didn't know I pierced at 20 and shoved a 14 in and almost died. Hurt sooo bad. Hope that helps a little good luck!

I think cartlidge because when i got my ears pierced it wasn't so bad. I will never get a belly button ring. That will hurt me to death. LOL. No really it will.

Technically cartilage cannot sense pain, but I hear that some people who pierce their cartilage on the ear will hurt so bad that they couldn't sleep, and finally they have to remove it in a few days...

i had my belly button pierced..it didn;t hurt a lot...but it got infected..don't do it save yourself some trouble....
