The US Marshals have the broadest authority of all federal law enforcement agencies. We are responsible for locating and apprehending Federal, State and Local fugitives. We are in charge of the national asset seizure program which handles forfeited criminal assets. We are in charge of security of Federal Courthouses. We transport prisoners for Court production. We run the Federal Witness Protection program. We are in charge of the Nuclear missile escort program. We are also currently training Police officials in Iraq. This is a brief synopsis, hope it helps.

Basically, they defend the Constitution of the United States of America. All aspects of it. I think they also answer to the Supreme Court. Not the President or Congress.

Like most government employees they do very little and receive not only a big pay check but stay in some of the best hotels in the country with their wives or girlfriends all paid for by you know who. I'd say it is the best pay for the least amount of work in law enforcement. Ever hear of one of them being killed???.
