If your dog is small, it might be a good idea to give him a capful or two of hydrogen peroxide to make him vomit it up.

There has to be a vet open somewhere...even if it is 30 miles away at least you can call and talk about proper treatment. Call someone who lives far away and has a dog and see if you can call their vet. Dogs can have 1 ounce of milk chocolate for every pound they weigh before it causes digestive problems, so if your dog is huge don't worry. Get in contact with someone's vet to make sure everything is ok...and most important STAY CALM!

Depends on if your dog is small or not.

I wouldn't be too worried, my golden retriever ate an entire basket of hersheys chocolate bars one year at christmas (probably like 8 bars) and was perfectly fine. Another dog (yellow lab) I know ate 5 brownies the other day. She's fine too.

I would monitor your dog and call your vet in the morning just to double check.

I have a mini dachscund. I asked my vet what I shouldn't feed her and she told me that the only thing not to let her get a hold of was raisins. I feed her chocolate candy all the time. Actually the chocolate that is in candy we purchase is not pure chocolate. Don't let your dog get into powdered chocolate that you would use to cook with which has a higher degree of purity to it, but eating chocolate candy isn't going to hurt your dog. A whole candy bar may make a small dog throw up on it's own due to the sweetness though. Make sure you have plenty of water available for your dog.

My dog ate some chocolate. He's about 35-40lbs. Lets just say I had a lot of cleaning up to do. That maybe the the case with your dog. Just watch his actions in next 30 minutes to an hour.

Keep calling all the vets. They should have emergency numbers so they can do 'on call' or whatever they call it. If it's a big dog, I would wait til first thing when morning comes and call it in. I have a 70 pounder that got into my choc. candy and he lived. But all dogs are different.

if it is a big dog, don't worry too much, then call a vet tomorrow, but if it is a small dog, there is this stuff that makes kids throw up (if they eat something that's bad for them, like poison) at the drug store, called ipecac syrup, ask the drug store person.
