Spend a lot of time on Edmunds.com and know more about the car you want than the dealer salesperson. Know MSRP, invoice prices, and TMV prices. Then ask for the dealer's Internet/Fleet manager to get your car. Ask them for a price quote.Do the same at a couple of other dealers to get a range of prices to choose from.

Good luck.

You have to look a LONG TIME.

If a dealer treats you poorly, walk out and find another car.

Don't tell them that you have been investigating at edmunds. They could care less. Use your investigation to your advantage, and don't tell dealers about it.

If you can go without buying a car for now, save up so you can pay cash.

The finance plans and options are the dealers' big haggling pawns. Remain very calm and very nice, but remain in control.
Walk out and don't look back if you feel ripped off. Buyer's remorse is already bad enough even when you get a GOOD deal.

I was lucky with my last car. I paid cash and got a great deal, and didn't have to haggle ONE minute with the dealer. I looked until I found what I wanted at the price I could afford, and bought it.

Try shopping the last couple of business days of the month, and or in December, January, February, these are the slowest months for dealerships and the sales team will try anything to make a sale.

You might also try www.carmax.com, I worked for a large dealership and we were able to buy our cars at cost but I found that carmax had better pricing than our discounted cost! Good Luck!

No dealer should everr be anything but courteous. It may seem they are getting harder to deal with because profit margins are much smaller than they were a few years back. Look for incentives and rebates available on many new models. You can negotiate with that and on financing sometimes.

The last new car I bought was through the internet sales dept of the dealer. I asked for a quote, liked it and went and signed the paperwork. NO HASSLE, NO PROBLEM.
