Well, biologically speaking, our greatest function is to pass on our DNA, but the ability of the human mind to postulate higher concepts makes it possible to affix value to any function or idea based on the reckoning of the individual.

We have no "universe ordained duty," whatever that means.
We have a self-imposed duty, because of our high level of intellect and empathy, to work to improve the quality of life for other creatures. We do in fact have the instincts to survive by all means possible, but we have developed the mind and emotion to check ourselves before we take actions which harm others.

Under evolution, you're not required to reproduce. There is no moral stance in evolution except whatever you mistakenly bring to it.
Take "social darwinism" for instance. That was a completely screwed-up way of looking at evolution that introduced morality/immorality issues when none are part of the basic model of evolution.
So, here you are then. Your live has no justification and no purpose. A clean slate.
Now, go and live your life and be genuinely that which you are.

Actually, it's the other way around. It's precisely because there is evolution that morality exists at all. It is a social necessity that dictates a very complex set of mores intended to insure social reproduction. It occurs in all cultures, theistic or not. Religion AT BEST codifies some (not all) human morality - and even then it is a pale reflexion of it.
And since you mention evolution, there is ample evidence of "fair play" behavior in primates and children too young to have been religiously indoctrinated.

Evolution does not say that life is that meaningless. And despite what creationists say, believing in evolution does not mean you can't believe in God.
And plus, if life is simply used to reproduce, why do animals have to eat, sleep, etc? Why do humans entertain themselves, live, love, dream, fall, rise?
There is much more to life then just reproduction, but that doesn't mean evolution is false. The two statements are unrelated---that's a favorite with creationists.

Propagation of the species. Does that mean reproducing as much as possible as often as possible by any means possible? No. That would exhaust our resources.
