You'd like to think it was all a scare tactic. That makes avoiding confession a whole lot easier. What would it take to convince you otherwise?

I, too grew up catholic, but never heard the true Gospel until I was 28yrs old. The true Gospel is SIMPLE. We are sinners, separated from God because of that sin. Jesus came to earth to die as a substitute in your place and mine; to bear our punishment in His own body, the penalty that WE deserved. Since He was God in the flesh and lead a sinless life, His blood sacrifice was acceptable by the Father to pay for our sins. To PROVE that it was accepted, He rose from the dead, and ascended into Heaven, where He awaits with open arms all who will ask forgiveness of their sins, from a true repentant heart. That, my friend, is the simplicity of the Gospel....so simple, even a little child could understand. You don't need to ask a priest's forgiveness, we go DIRECTLY to JESUS.....He's waiting for you, if you'll turn to Him, today!
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. NO MAN cometh unto the father, but by me."

If you want to be a good athlete do you practice?
If you want to sing well do you rehearse?
Confession is the same. No fear, but good examination of your personal actions before God. To reveals these actions to another elder of the church assists you in not rationalizing your sinful actions away.
Will you go to Hell with deadly sins on your souls that you fail to repent? Yes. I think this is reasonable.
Investigate your Fear.

we are told in scriptures to confess with our mouths - that we must confess our sins. for some people it is very "easy" to confess our sins to God alone. since, apparently, you no llonger believe in the catholic teachings, i can say this.... if you happen to go to a catholic mass and have a mortal sin on your conscience, it needs to be confessed - out loud to the priest - for he is held bound to not speak and can councel you on that sin otherwise you can not receive the sacrament of Holy Eucharist, however you are still welcome!!!
HOWEVER.... if you do not feel the need and can sincerely beg God for the forgiveness then that too is okay if you have renounced the Catholic church. I will admit there is one sin of mine that it does me no good to speak to a priest for it is noting he can help me with, nor would it be any more needed to speak then the time I've confessed and the times i still beg for assistance and help from God.
for the simple question you asked.... no a catholic will NOT go to hell if he/she does not confess -- for the "basic" sins.... if one - of any denomination rejects Jesus or blasphemes against the Holy Spirit.... we'll God will be the judge of their soul.
i hope that helps.
for those claiming to be catholic and who do not participate in the sacrament of reconciliation.... i question why you feel capable to pick and choose parts of the Rcc that suit you....

the truth is found in the catholic church, if you read your bible more closely you will see where the practice of confession came from. think pentecost and when jesus was baptised........amongst others. where is the fear? you either follow it or you don't. catholics also seek forgiveness directly from the lord. after you confess you do penance to atone for your sin, alot of people just say sorry,do nothing and say sorry for the same thing again.

It depends. Not just any sin will send you straight to hell. Only mortal sins can do that.
Sin is a deliberate thought, word, deed, or omission contrary to the eternal law of God.
A mortal sin is a grave infraction of the law of God that destroys the divine life in the soul of the sinner (sanctifying grace), constituting a turn away from God. For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must be present: grave matter, full knowledge of the evil of the act, and full consent of the will.
Most of the sins we commit are venial sins. Venial sin is a sin which does not destroy the divine life in the soul, as does mortal sin, though it diminishes and wounds it. Venial sin is the failure to observe necessary moderation, in lesser matters of the moral law, or in grave matters acting without full knowledge or complete consent.
However consistent unrepentant venial sins can slowly destroy your relationship with God and become mortal sin.
People die all the time with venial sins on their conscience and they will go to heaven.
With love in Christ.

The only one capable of taking upon himself all our wrong doing is Jesus Christ
No priest or ordained religious person has the authority to forgive us our sin's
Only Christ himself has that authority friend.
You can speak to him in faith in your own home, although a church is vital to attend, but if its a dead and repetitious church then go elsewhere
"Religion is the dead repetition of what was once spiritually vital"
Seek Jesus, and accept his sacrifice for yourself, not a priest. Although this is not to discredit priests as they often do a great job, but they cannot remove your shame like Christ can

I'm Catholic and don't confess. I think God knows all my sins and he will judge me accordingly when I die. The lord knows what is in your heart and a priest doesn't need to hear your sins, he is human too.

A Catholic is going to Hell no matter what he or she does. Catholics worship Mary and they ask a priest (a.k.a. a child molester) to forgive them of their sins. No where in the Bible does it say that you should go and ask your priest to forgive you but to ask God or Jesus Christ to forgive you.
