Word of mouth. tell your customers, the ones you like, that you really like them and you think that they are real cool. Say to them that you are wondering if they have any cool friends that they could bring in to you. They will bring them in to show you they are cool. It's called giving them a good reputation to live up to. Give them discounts if they bring in 3 or more. Paul Mitchel has a CD called The Art of Making Money. about 45 dollars and worth it. Try taking night courses at your local community college, get out and meet people. Tell 'em your a hairdresser. Have different business cards saying you specialize in long hair or color or men's cuts. If you are a male, like me, have your girlfriend give them the business cards because the girls think that you're trying to pick up on them and enjoy throwing your cards away. But if she gives them your card, the girls come in because they want what she has. If she looks good. I still can't figure that one out but it's true. And work hard to be the best in your field. Dig in deep inside yourself in order to find your creativity and enjoy your work. Remember if they don't look good, you don't look good. And If they don't like something, tell me. If they do like it, tell everyone. Hang out with popular people. And shyness gets you nowhere. It helps if you work in a busy salon. Look good and get noticed. I got customers from other hairdressers because I have confidence and experience and look damn good at doing what I do. I call it the Art of BS. It's not really all show but it is entertaining. It is a lot more than just cutting hair. I also get a lot of customers from the color stand at the grocery store.

build trust, and be honest. these people will come to you for everything major in their life. Be at the top of your game, watch videos, go to classes, and hair shows. When first building sometimes a little has to be given to get the aunts, sisters, friends, and before you know it, you are booked. Color is where you will keep clients: make the hair tight plus healthy. Listen to them, it's their dime. Try to make a point to remember something about them every time. Keep their info in case you leave, there are so stylists who let money walk away.

Contact physicians' offices and hospice nursing agencies and offer free in-home visits to set and style hair for dying ladies who want desperately to look brighter for their visiting families but cannot get out. A nursing assistant will usually be available to coordinate with to do the shampooing. Ladies who did this for my patients in hospice became very popular by word of mouth and gratitude.

Start working somewhere that has a lot of walk in clients. Also, make yourself a business card. Talk to people everywhere you go. Ask people where they get their hair done. Give them your card and be confident!
