Shrimp cooks quickly but it depends on what size and cookingmethod you are using to determine an exact time amount. The basic rule of thumb is when they turn pink, they are cooked. In order tofry, you need to peel, bread and fry- It you want an easier way, peel and cook in a mixture of olive oil, butter and garlic. As soon as the shrimp are pink, they are done and you have a fabulous easy meal- serve on pasta, rice or by itself. In the summer, try it on the grill- wrap with bacon and baste with bbq sauce and grill- everyones favorite!

Both...if you boil it, start with salted water, bring it to a boil. Add the shrimp. Let the water come back to a boil for one minute and remove shrimp. Chill them, and use them as chilled shrimp with cocktail sauce. You can deep fry them with a batter, or fry them in a pan with just a little canola oil.

Shrimp gets tough if you overcook it! It should just turn pink, then remove it. A steamer basket or metal strainer works very well.
Frying is a different story. Let them sit in some yellow mustard, egg, and milk for a bit then dip into flour, cornmeal, or a half mixture of each, throw into hot oil and remove when they start floating. Don't add too many at one time, or if they are very cold. It draws the temp of your grease down and they absorb it. Yuck...greasy shrimp!
What time we eatin'? :)

Whatever method you use, watch them closely. If you want to serve them hot, fish them out of the boiling liquid when they just start to turn colour as they'll continue to cook. If you want to use them cold, wait until they just turned pink and dump them into cold water to stop the cooking. Try to avoid reheating: the taste won't change but they will get a little tough.

I would say less than a minute if the water is boiling. Possibly less than 30 seconds. Be careful not to overcook them!
