Cat shedding is normal natural event in its life. In the wild cats noramlly shed their hair twice yearly- Spriing & Fall. Dead hairs in their bodies create lot of irritation, hence they do shed on their own.

The healthy sign of a cat is hair shedding, whereas the sick cat won't shed hairs. The amount of shedding hair is less than the outdoor cats due to the artificial light inside the house, but it depends and from the control of the constant temperature in your home.

If you don't want to see the shedding, try to have cat breeds that are often touted as shedding as minimal amount. They include Cornish Rex and Devon Rex .

Daily brushing and combing remove loose and dead hair and help keep a cat’s skin and coat healthy. When you comb your cat, comb her carefully in the direction of hair growth to smooth the coat and remove any minor knots or tangles.

IF shedding is very severe, your cat may have dust allergy or food sensitivity. Even some of the vets advised to go for hair shaving for these kind of cats at least for thrice in a year.

You can buy a special grooming brushes for cats. This will slow down the shedding and improve the look of the cat also.

just brush them everyday or every other day...that should control the shedding...also, what you feed them effects them on shedding too. Find a food (preferable dry food) that has anti-oxidents in them, that helps them not to shed so much. I have good cat food that has that and i didnt have the major shedding problem in the summer like my previous cats did...

You can spend a lot of money on special brushes, but I have ten cats ages 2 to 21, including one Maine Coon. I have found the best grooming tool, and the cheapest is a good old pocket comb. They love it; it's easy to get the loose hair out of it; and it actually gets more loose hair than a brush. It needs to be one that has the teeth fairly close together. Not a flea comb, but not with teeth spaced wide apart either.

I have one cat and I wonder the same thing. Besides grooming him, the other thing I suggest is that you do not wear black.
