Chocs are out then,my mum is 80 on Xmas day,and believe it or not she wants a mobile phone.Does she like music? What about an mp3 player and you can download a lot of golden oldies for her,a foot stool to rest her legs or a blanket to keepher feet and legs warm, I am diabetic and my legs and feet are always frozen, but because diabetes attacks the nerve endings,I dont always realise how cold I am

I have heard that perfumes and odours can provoke strong memories when other faculties are shutting down. It's hard to say based on her age how "old" she is really feeling, but if she has had diabetes for long she will probably be feeling quite old by now. Odours like Lilly of the Valley can bring back wonderful feelings of times gone by, which can help cheer someone up immensely. The trick is to find the right smells.

I think there are special chocolates, or chocolate bars, which are suitable for diabetics. I know a lady who loves Rive Gauche by Yves St. Laurent (YSL). She loves to receive the gift set. It is her favourite perfume. It is beautiful. She is almost 90. x

I find old people really appreciate a home made hamper, with things that they would use everyday. Teabags, coffee, spreads, biscuits, sugar and other every day items. You could line it with a couple of new teatowels. Old people have no use for many other things and find it hard to shop, so hampers are usually appreciated.

A book. Marley and Me, seems to be popular with the older crowd. Just make sure you get it in big print.
