it sounds like your TV's safety circuit is kicking the unit off. If you turn it on and get no picture before it turns off...then you'll need professional service..it sounds like you need professional service already...but don't underestimate a stuck button on the TV. Is it a tube? is it a plasma..projection? tube TV's will usually make a slight thud or static sound from the high voltage transformers kicking over (30,000 volts or more). If the TV is cutting itself off soon as it would make the thud..then it's probably the high voltage flyback transformers. Your cable company won't help you, you need an actual TV service tech to look at it. There is nothing you can do....and becuase the voltages inside a TV are beyond lethal (fry your heart in one zap), you really don't want to be poking around in there.

Screen goes black but is the power actually off on the TV? If the power is still ON but a black screen you need to get your TV fixed because something is going out? If your power goes OFF do you have a remote? Take the batteries out of your remote and see if the TV stays on.

Your TV has an problem in its innards. You should bring it in to a service man. My TV did exactly the same thing ( its a JVC) it cost about 150.00 for the part and labour.
Depending on how old your tv is it might make more sense to just replace it.

you might have your timer on and it turns off automatically, go to menu and settings or timer and see if it is on. Otherwise I have no clue. Good Luck
