My saving grace during some very bad acne spells has been vitamin E oil.
I put a light coat on my face after I wash it before I go to bed. Then I wash the oil off in the morning. The stuff is food for the skin. During particularly bad spells, I take vitamin E supplements, so it would also work from the inside out.
Sometimes, I make a face mask of egg yolk. This is also good for the skin.

Try Proactive, or talking to your doctor if that doesn't help one thing that will is a Natrupathic Doctor, might be a little exxpensive but it helps a lot.

Natropaths help the body take the acne away. For example I had very sever acne and I went to the doctor, although that did help a little with the soaps and pills it didn't get it to go away.
I then went to a natropath and after a few setions we found out that it's because my livre isn't doing so well. So he started me on some liver pills which really seemed to work.

They start around $80 -$300 for the first visit and anywhere from $60-$250 for visits after that.

I know this probably sounds stupid but try proactiv...I know your probably thinking...the stuff on TV?!? But my whole family is just like your daughter...literally everyone, my mom, my aunts, my grandmother, my cousins, my grandfather when was still alive and we had tried all the prescription and over the counter stuff and none of it worked, but then m cousin tried proactiv and it really worked. It does take a few weeks to start working but we couldn't believe the difference. My cousin went from someone with severe cystic acne to none at all. They have a whole line of stuff. We all use it now and we would never try anything else again. Best of all, no nasty side effects to deal with! I think that is the best part. You can get it at just about any mall or on-line too. Good luck!

If she has cystic acne that doesn't respond to anything else, take her to a dermatologist and ask for Accutane. This drug makes short work of the worst cases, like the one that my godchild had.

There are things to think about with Accutane, and you'll want to have a talk with the doctor and make sure you understand all the limitations. It can have unpleasant side effects (which can be worth living through for someone with really intense problems). And a girl or woman must not get pregnant while on Accutane or while the drug is in her system, because it causes birth defects, really terrible ones. So being on effective birth control is a must.

I'm not sure what kind of prescription you are referring to. Has she only been using topical ointments, creams and soaps? It sounds to me like she may have have nodular acne. Does she have "cysts" type pimples (the really big ones filled with puss.)
If that is the case - the best thing for her may be Acutane. My 17 year old son is going through it right now and has been battling this nonsense since he was 13. We tried all the topical treatments (prescribed by the dermatologist) and nothing really worked. I was hesitant about Acutane because I had heard some "stories" about it, but he had plenty of evidence to prove to me that Acutane is perfectly safe for teenagers to take.
Anyway, you can do some research into it - but it has been a miracle for us!

Take some good supplements. avoid trans fatty acids, hydrogenated fats, red meats and excessive sugar. That should get you rolling. For a great book on exactly what you need to do to cure your acne then check this out, http://www.facemaster.net/thefacemastercourse.html
