I always faint when having a blood draw.
I'm just so petrified of needles, as soon as i feel it on my skin, i pass out.

Is there anyway of controling my anxiety, so that i don't pass out?

For me the worst part of the test, is fainting. HORRIBLE

Try donating blood. That's how I got over my fear of needles.

the RN tells me to always eat food before I leave the house for the appointment.
When a person gives blood at a bloodmobile they are usually given orange juice, soda like pepsi, and cookies. Maybe you could busy yourself with either one of those while the nurse draws blood.

If you plan on having blood drawn a lot over the years you might want to talk with a professional about anxiety so you can get over that fear of needles, or even get hypnotized and see if that works. Some things you can get over by yourself, other things you need assistance.

I'll give it my best shot, no pun intended. I am a cop. I draw blood from drunks and bad guys and gals. The best way to get over any fear is to learn to face those fears. If you are afraid of snakes, learn about them, touch them, hold them, and you'll soon not be afraid of them. Same is true for the needle thing. Tell yourself that it's just a little needle. If it bothers you to look at the stick, then turn your head the other way.

Half the battle is learning to not let the thought of worry take over your brain. You can handle it. Think about the people who have serious illness and have to get a needle as often as daily. The people taking blood are more than familiar with fainting. They will take good care of you. Another reason to relax.

Don't think about the needle and just concentrate on breathing nice and steady. I read a study that showed that many fainters faint because they hold their breath...many, didn't even realize they were hodling their breath. Keep your mind on your breathing an let the nurse or technician worry about the needle part of it.

Look the other way, and take a deep breath. When they are about to stick you let the air out slowly. let it out, let it out, then keep looking the other way and tell yourself that it didn't hurt.
I personally tell the girl that, I've given more sticks then she's personally seen, and if I died today it would take the rest of her life to catch up.

Or when they are about to stick you.....scream!

make sure you drink lots of water before so theres no chance of dehydration. then ask if there is a place where you can lie down. then when your lying down slowly count back from 100. in a few seconds it will be over!!
