And why so many different ones? Did the Gods of past battle it out, or is there some greater purpose to having so many major religions?

I do not believe in religion. I believe in the Father, the Creator Yahweh!!!! Religion is definitely man made!

And to those who give me thumbs down, that is very rude. I believe that we should believe in one Heavenly Father. Do you not see something wrong w/ all these different beliefs, It is scary, how are we to get to the most holy place if we are thinking "My religion is the only way----wouldn't it be sad if none of these religions are the right way, like I said before we label ourselves, DO SOME RESEARCH ON WHERE THE NAME AND RELIGIONS COME FROM-----MAN!!!!!!!

I can explain the christian world, if you're interested. And if I have this wrong cuz I'm no expert somebody please correct me.

So you have the Jew religion which uses the Bible as it's book, and in the "old testamen" it says that God will send a messiah.

When Jesus was born and he lived on earth he was a Jew. Well, some beleived that he was the messiah and some beleived that he wasn't. Those that did became Christians and those that didn't were protestant because they protested Jesus as being the messiah. So Christians have their own bible which is divided into the old testament and the new testament. The new testament being the life of Jesus only that Jesus came and "cleared up" some things that may have been unclear in the old testament. There are different religions that branch off the main protestant and christian religions depending on their beleifs. One of which and one of the biggest ones is the Catholic religion.

ok so you now see the distinction between jews and christians. Muslims didn't beleive in Jesus as being the mesiah although they don't see what he did as wrong, instead they have Mohammed, they didn't consider him God on earth, yet they considered him the last prophet. Last prophet and his words were considered just as if god himself had said them, and these are written in the Koran or Qoran.. please excuse my spelling...

Bhudists believe in ridding themselves of any wordly pleasure or want. (I think...) Bhuda reached enlightment by meditation, which is what all bhudists seek and follow his example.

The Hindu religion I have no idea what's it's about but they believe in reicarnation.

and I don't want to keep giving mediocre explanations so I'll leave it up to somebody else to keep going. I've been catholic since I was born, but now that I'm older and have learned about some religions I think I would have still chosen it if I wasn't born into it. It's principles are basic and the teachings really have helped me out during some tough times in my life.

Where is the best place to hid a leaf? In a forest!
Didn't your mother ever tell you that? Satan has hid the true religion among a million other ones. How do you find that leaf among so many? Well, what did God kill the people for before?
That is a start. Genesis 6:13 Says "the end of all flesh has come before me because the earth is full of violence because of them."
He wipped the earth clean with water because they were so violent. So that tells us he doesn't like that.
Then he didn't like magic, spells, talking to demons, or wicked angels. Sodom and Gamorrah he didn't like they were homosexuals. Blew them up with an astroid. Wasn't just that they were sex worshippers and committed fornicaton excessively. It said in Jude 6. So sex outside of marriage wouldn't be something you wouldn't want to do.
when Joshua went into these pagan nations and seen the disgusting things they were worshiping he said to destroy them.
they were sex worshippers, we have a lot of customs from sex worshippers from the Easter bunnie to the colored eggs.
Should we do that? Then Christmas was handed down to us from sun worshipers. From the evergreen tree to the hanging balls on it. They also worshiped sex. That today seems to be real popular. Then there was the Pharisees of Jesus day who were money lovers and loved their high position with the politcal powers. He comdemed them and took up with the simple shepards. So greed is a deadly sin.
then there is liars, is Santa Clause the truth? Should we teach children to trust some strange man in a costume to bring them gifts their own selfish parents won;t buy them.
What about stealing or extortion? Some Churches take money to help the poor but to date have never helped anyone but themselves. Would giving money to a rich man make you better with god? Because he says, he is a man of God? or is he a man who wants to get rich by using God? Most things are in the bible for us to read and think about. Would you want to have association with a religion that does these things. Like community responsibility. Shouldn't we be willing to speak up to our children and tell them the truth?

If you are a believer in God, The Holy Spirit and Jesus...then you will look everything in this way.
God`s purpose in giving the covenant to the people and His creations is plain and simple...He wants to have a pact between the people...that if anybody will keep it, He will do His promise in bringing you back to His eternal paradise.....
But because people in this world are much influenced by evilness (satan use the glitters of the world: power, fame, money), thus...God`s covenant was ignored, dealt to a lesser degree according to one`s convenience, and exercising utmost free will, tainted with mortal ambitions and desires.
Bible are written by people inspired by God`s Holy Spirit (to write everything about Truthful God`s grand design, world creations and detailed plans for His faithfuls.) So, we may say, the bible and its contents never changes...but mortal people`s interpretations ranges from exacting truth as was written to totally absurd.
Now knowing these worldly facts to consider, but you have the profound belief and understanding of God, and you really want to be with Him...you won`t waste your time assimilating other people`s interpretations.......
How about talking directly to the God`s Holy Spirit if you desired so, to guide you clearly to the Almighty Father`s pathway with certain clarity...and you don`t need to be afraid, doubt & confused what and which way to follow.
Be blessed.

The only religion that is correct is the one that Christ is the head of and not man.
The correct religion will not follow traditions of men but the will obey the Word of God and follow the example that Christ set down.
It will not build massive structures nor will it pay their "preacher" to teach the Word of God.
There is no denomination ever spoken of in the Bible.
It only matters if we have our names in the Lambs Book of Life instead of the other books for the wicked.

As Muslim said,
'Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from error. -Quran 2:256'
Since the truth of Islam stands out clear that it is an evil religion where people fight and kill each other ever day, choose a religion that teaches love and forgiveness.

There are different religions because everyone is so blessedly different that it's impossible for each and every person to see God the same way, if even at all. That is why different groups break off to do things differently and groups break off from there and so on. Over time, you can't help but have zillions of religions.

Boy, if we knew the answer to that, it could bring world peace. One rule stands in all of them: Do to others as you'd have them do to you. It may be in different wording, but its there. Doesn't seem like human beings can even get that one simple rule. The best reason I can say is that different cultures needed to explain life the best way they could. Maybe if the Internet had been around they could have shared their thoughts to make one simple answer. ;-)!LOL

We don't know...only God knows his people, but a lot of us try our best to please him.
Yes there is many religions because we are not alike some of us have stronger ideas about life and spiritual input about God etc.
We don't know to much about the spirit realm so to say Gods battle it out...would be foolish.
May you have peace and do your best in your life...peace be with you...
