Before
Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

sanctified = set apart

Keeping the Sabbath Day holy is one of the commandments given at Sinai. However, God did declare it to be a day of rest on the seventh day of creation. So I guess Adam and Eve, before the fall, would have honored it. Although they didn't work anyway. One could suppose that they passed down God's decree about the Sabbath to their descendants... This is a good question. I don't know if Abraham kept the Sabbath. However, Abraham did not keep the commandments given at Sinai. He followed his covenant with God and the Noahide laws - the same rules that Noah followed but which, evidently, the rest of the world ignored, necessitating the Flood. The Noahide laws are your basic morality principles without the detail and specifics of the commandments delivered at Mt. Sinai.

The slaves in egypt didn't get a day off I am sure. Maybe now they were free and probably work themselves to death.
So making them take a day off to spend with their families and study the scrolls mosses had just written. Was a good idea.
But when Jesus came he did away with all the hand written laws and sacrifices. We are not under the old laws anymore.
