I know that a similar question like this was asked before but I'm looking for a better answer. I guess I could call the DMV but you know how long that takes! If anybody has any experience with this or even can direct me to a website, that would be helpful. Thanks so much.

32 years law enforcement, retired. No where on your registration papers does it say what color the car is, and the DMV doesn't care what color you paint it. The VIN is the controlling unchanging number they go by. I might also note the insurance doesn't care either, and "Red cars cost more" is urban legend, not based in any factual information.

The absolutely free reverse vin check sites generally provide fake information. To get real information, money will have to be paid. The free searches provide fake information so they can get your email address to send spam.

Stay away from shady reverse vin check sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse vin check site like http://www.reversevincheck.net that has been around since 1995.

As long as the VIN Number stays the same you can paint it pink and it would still be the same car in the eyes of the DMV.

Neither the DMV nor your coverage corporation is conventional with or cares what color your vehicle is. replace the colour any way that pleases you, and also you do not ought to notify all people about it. If your registration lists the color of the car, then yes, you need to notify the DMV if there is a change in the color. Not all states track the color, however.

All 28s done in CA have a color tied to it, so yes, reg and title need to change. Otherwise LE won't be able to locate correct vehicle.

no you don't have to notify anyone. Your registration does not specify the color of your car. It's your right to paint your car any color you want...and god forbid they start that...as long as the car is legal it's not a problem
