2 cats and a new puppy?

I have 2 cats (females). My mother-in-law is giving my husband a "wiener dog" puppy for Christmas. I am really worried about how the 3 will get along, having never been around other species, except humans of course. I plan on buying a "cat tree" for the kitties to have a get away. Is there anything else I can do to help them ajust?

introduce slowly, keep the puppy confined to a certain area. I've had many cats and dogs and the puppies learn to leave the cats alone if they don't love dogs, and the cats learn to avoid the dogs unless they enjoy their company. I've had cats and dogs that wrestled and loved each other, then some that just co-exist.
