I love the computer I love getting e-mails I love posting and getting answers on this site the computer gives me a sense of security that I am loved and accepted when people write me and when they respond.

But sometimes at work I spend a little too much time on the computer and I think people are starting to notice. All my work is timely and done well but when it is not busy I tend to e-mail.
I am allowed so long as I don't abuse it.

To say everyone does it or takes cigarette breaks or talks in the office is a poor excuse because I am a christian and I want to be a light.

What are ways that I could displine myself to either limit my computer time properly and prudently or how can I just stay off yahoo all together when I am at work? I dont want to be a hyprocrite but there are times when work is very slow.

Any godly practical suggestions? Thank you and God bless you

Perhaps this is Gods way of showing you that you spend more time on the computer then you do with Him! Remember, He's a jealous God and He wants nothing coming in between you and Him.

A good way to discipline yourself would be to start off slowly. Don't use the computer once when you'd usually do. Then, after maybe a few days or so, don't use it twice in a day when you usually do. then three and so forth. Using it in moderating is fine, but from a spiritual perspective God doesn't want you to get your security from people, but Him, and Him alone!

I would suggest instead of going to yahoo on company time when times are slow that you spend that time doing some type of research that would benefit the company you work for. Or perhaps you can look up bible scripture and do your daily bible reading, or your daily journal to the Lord. Remember that you need to work as if unto the Lord. It is easy to idolize computers these days as well as many other electronic fancies. Put God first and he will show you the way. Maybe you can even research some good christian artists, or check out what is going on in the missionary field. They can always use our support.

If you can honestly say that you don't have anything to work on then it shouldn't be a problem. When things get slow at my work I look around to see if I can help someone else. Then if no one needs any help they already know that I've done my work and gone beyond the call of duty to see if there was other work I could help do. Once there isn't any work to do and you've made a point of letting people know that you have time on your hands and are willing to help out if needed you shouldn't have to worry about people thinking that you are spending too much time on e-mails.

I have a similar problem, but I suggest is, don't stay off of Yahoo...you can use Yahoo to increase your knowledge on subjects that are compatible with your work.
Use your time wisely and remember breaks are opportunities and sometimes your lunch hours.
Try to find out the rules on this with what is the requirements on using the comp. their at work...I do it , because I went straight to the boss and asked him...If I am on my lunch hour can I use the comp etc.
He said so long as you use it off time at work.
Write down 10 things you must do and list them 1st come basis. You might not get the list done that day but do them one at a time...research? Use Yahoo search...Good luck comp. one.
Peace......

Without knowing what type of work you do, maybe you can use Yahoo answers to do a little outside research on your job? Try and look for answers that will increase your job knowledge and then your personal surfing will be work related!

Set a timer, say for five minutes. I know you say it is slow, but if it is really noticeable, you may have a problem. You not only need to be a light, you also need to be gainfully employed. I do this from home only, and yes it is fun, but can also be addictive. Take care.

You've already answered your question.

You get your work done
Sometimes work is very slowwww
Others take cigarette breaks

Consider it your break ... but don't abuse the amount of time spent there.

Some of us don't use the computer at work for anything non-work related. Why don't you try saving your "playtime" for when you're off hours?

Just remember you are working for God and not for man. All your works are offerings to him. When you see him as your boss your work improves.
