The church has no motive other than to enable the aliens, since there would be no reason for them to be involved in employer/employee business in the first place. Do priests from your local parish run out to your place of business to 'negotiate' on behalf of employees your company fires? It is an outrage!

The Catholic Church licked to many the wrong way. Why Don't they damn Mexico for keeping their people in 3rd World Conditions.

The Catholic Church only wants money. They don't give a hoot about illegal aliens.

The Catholic church can, just like any other church speak up at anytime for any reason, just like you and me- however the fact that Smithfield gave them the time of day let alone agree to terms that are beneficial for people who are employed under false ssn#s floors me.
I think it would be fab- if some member of the Catholic church that interceded on the "undocumented worker's "
behalf discovered that it was their ssn#s that were being used to gain employment.
If the Catholic church wants to waste it's time defending criminals who have willfully failed to legally gain identification for employment, that is their business, but they should be aware all of America is watching and taking notes, a reputation is a hard thing to get rid of.

The Catholic Church agreed to help negotiations between the company and employees when they could not reach an agreement by themselves.

The press release even states: Following the walk out, the company agreed to negotiate around the workers' issues through the Catholic Church and their attorneys. The company acknowledged that they had misinterpreted the law and agreed to make appropriate adjustments to comply.

The Church has been commanded by Jesus Christ to act as peacemakers.

With love in Christ.

I wouldn't exactly be known as a champion for the Roman Catholic church, but in this case, I say: "Good for them". They are speaking up for those who can't speak up for themselves.
One of the great complaints about Christian churches, both Protestant and catholic, is the lack of involvement in issues like this. If we do get involved, there will still be complaints! However I would rather be criticized for having a social conscience than for not having one.

they have no business in govt business. if they want to stick their nose where it does not belong. then they need to be taxed on everything that goes into their churches. the pope needs to step in and tell them to stop it. and to turn that illegal that is hiding out in Chicago.
