Hey guys I have a question about starvation metabolism. Okay, so since the beginning of September I have not had one single day where I have eaten more than 1000 calories. I have lost a lot of weight and I tend to fluxuate between 700-900 cal a day, and I work out 4-5 times a week running for 40 min on the treadmill. Since Sept I have gone from 120 to 110 and at first I only walked on the treadmill but for an hour but 2 weeks ago I started running. I noticed that I started shedding fat since I switched to running. My question is this: I have heard numerous opinions about STARVATION METABOLISM. How many is actually starving? I am 5'1 and weigh 110 and I eat 4-5 meals a day, all healthy things like whole grains, lots of fruits, veggies, tuna and salmon, chicken, and yogurt, cheese and milk. I never have more than 1000 but I never get hungry and am always energized. Is 800-1000 cal really considered starving? Ive been doing just fine!

ok..if you have to ask if you're starving yourself..then you probably are...a healthy amount of calories a day is 2000 and no less...according to the doctors and dieticians you need 2000 calories a day to be healthy...you may not see problems physically but what about internally?? The fact that you know how many calories a day you eat tells you count your calories to make sure you don't go over...which is typically seen in people with eating disorders or borderline eating disorders...working out 4-5 times a week also seems kinda excessive...it doesn't matter how many meals you have a day...what matters is the amount that is in those meals...i could call eating 5 grapes a meal...it is true that snacking and eating smaller portions is better for your body but only if you comsume the proper amount of calories..which is at least 2000...it even sounds to me like you may know something is wrong and not normal and that you're maybe even rationalizing with yourself...

That's not starving, I would have to do some more research on it but for your size 1000 calories might be fine. I would stay towards the top end of the 1000 to make sure you are getting enough nutrition

PS after reading more of your questions, yes you are in danger you are obsessing about your weight and that is a borderline anorexic. I have to agree with the Dr. you need to seek professional help, this disease progresses

sounds like a pretty healthy diet to me, i used to be an assistant director of a weight loss clinic and that was the goal some of our clients went for, 1,000 calories a day lots of meals but not huge amounts. don't drop below 800 calories a day without first checking with your doctor.

if you're exercising all the time you need more calories to compensate for the extra activity. You're not necessarily starving yourself, because you are only 5'1". However I wouldn't be counting your calories. You're exercising, coupled with a well-balanced diet so that's all that should matter.
