I don't know about Southwestern Asia. But Krishna says in the Gita- "Whenever their is a decline in religious principals and the truth appears to be lost, I appear again and again or send my representative to reestablish the Truth." Meaning because writing and teachings become misconstrued through mistranslations and misinterpretations so He has to come again or send another representative to reestablish the truth. Like Christ had to come and give the actual meaning of the words Moses gave due to misinterpretations and changes made.
