We bought a gift for a child through the Angel Tree program. Picked up a name and age at the local Denny's. Returned gift to Denny's and they bring them to the Salvation Army.
A great organization is Samaritan's Purse, founded by Franklin Graham. You can google it or check at your local church. The program is called Operation Christmas Child. ( This is what Betty Boop is talking about )

churches do the 'girl or boy' Christmas shoe boxes that go overseas to kids there.
YOU choose the gender, and then fill the box up with tiny toys and gum and stuff they don't have.
