My fiances' step mother is going to be watching our two children when I go back to work between 30-35 hours per week. What should we pay her? We all think of her as the Grandmother so what is fair for a family member to charge?
They are two boys 7 months and 2 years.

A fair price for daycare of 2 boys 7 months and 2 years? Call around to some local daycares and ASK THEM. Every area has a going rate, some have higher for more instruction based daycares, or more structured settings. Then be guided accordingly. Just because the woman is a Grandmother, I am sure she with enjoy it SOMETIMES, but would you all day every day? She raised her children already. I would sit down and speak with her, and based on information I had already gathered from area daycares, I would inquire what SHE would consider reasonable and fair and then try and accomodate that. If its agreed, then what does it matter what everyone else charges? Well, at least you know what ballpark you belong in and can determine if one is perhaps better in the long run. Good luck!

LOL!! Child care and fair price never go together in the same sentence. Expect to pay at least $80 per week per child. Some are A LOT more than that.

I would think that you should ask her what she thinks is fair and then add a little on the top. Childcare costs vary WILDLY across the country, but I wouldn't expect anyone to watch an infant and a toddler full-time for less than $150/week. That's a lot less than minimum wage!

About 100 a week seems reasonable, for a family member. And if you want to give her extra, then it's up to you.
