When I was stationed in California while on Active Duty -- my DayCare Fees (in Pre-School) were running monthly around $1,500 for two children -- and that was considered one of the better day-cares in the area.

Given that this was about a decade ago -- and prices in California are about double what they were in any other place in the country -- I suspect that if you budget at least $1,000 a month for a child in Day Care -- that will be a ball-park figure to begin with -- and being in Sacramento --- that is just another high cost area too.

Here in California, the average rate is about $45-$50 dollars per day per child for a home environment daycare. Most of them do a preschool type program for the older children (2 and up) as well.

I live in CT and pay $35 a day, hours are 7-5:30 and I provide lunch and snacks. My daughter is 14 mos now, she's been going for about a month now. When I was shopping around for daycare, I saw everything from $35/day to $90/day. You really need to visit these day cares because just calling and finding the rates is one thing, but visiting one is another. I found this daycare for $40/day and was willing to pay, but when I got there, the place was gross, the kids had runny noses down their chin and the "teacher" was 17 years old with no formal training. They told me they did "onsite training." The chains are more expensive however most provide lunch (i.e. Tutor Time) The place I found for my daughter has been pretty good, it took about 2 weeks for her to get used to it, and now she likes it. Good Luck to You!

Oklahoma - I charge $75 per week per child if they provide food. If I provide food, the charge goes up to $85 per week. But, I only watch one child, so they are getting alot of one on one attention. I also get two weeks of vacation, one week of sick and if they don't bring her, I still get paid for it. Half days are the same as a full day.
Good luck!
