As a mother of 6, I can tell you she will not understand now. BUT, after the baby is born, keep her in the loop. Let her help change the diapers, or maybe rub lotion on after the bath. Or, let her choose the clothes the baby will wear on an outing. She will get the hang of it, and will not be as resentful later. Make sure you reasssure her daily that she is the big girl, and you NEED her help. Also, do not leave her needs out. While the baby is sleeping, read her a book, or go together into the kitchen to make you and her a "big girl" lunch. She will still need her special time with you alone, also. Good luck!!

That depends on how old your toddler is that an opinion can be given. Now one can tell the baby that she is going to have a baby sister or brother to play with and it will be soon. Show her your tummy and let her know the baby is there. Show her baby gifts that will be used for the baby and let her play some parts in preparation for the baby. She may become more prepared than you and will give the baby when it is born more attention and that is when you will have to show her how to care for the baby along with you. Your 1st born is young, yet she will understand.

lol...... um sorry. That aint gonna happen. 2 year olds dont care they just dont like to share anything and that includes u. That thought process of thinking of other people doesnt start until adulthood. Sorry, doctors and more experienced people can sugar coat it for u and say, oh yes this too shall pass..... whatever. Look, just be patient. U can explain till the cows come home but she will still be impatient with the lil one. Make sure that she isnt too aggressive around the baby though. Take it slow. This is new to her too and dont leave her out. Have her help with dressing or putting her socks on. that will be fun for her.

Get the Dora the Explorer Big Sister DVD, and use that as a springboard. You can show her your growing tummy and tell her why mom's getting a belly, talk to her about kittens having brothers and sisters and tell her that she is going to get a human baby brother or sister. She will catch on, she's got time.
And congratulations!!

I actually think it can be quite easy to do.
My best friend's hubby took their 2yr old son (Connor) to the hospital after she had their 2nd son (Riley).
Connor would listen to the tummy when she was pregnant too.
Riley 'gave' Connor a present when they first met at the hospital. This worked for them.
With nappy changes, Connor would 'help' and after me friend would wipe Riley's bottom clean, Connor would wipe Riley's leg.
You'll find a way to allow the flow, but as long as you set aside a little time for you and your eldest, she'll know she's not playing 2nd best.
Congrats and Goodluck!

talk about the baby a lot and show her that the baby is in your belly. Tell her she is going to be a big sister.

Tell her about it. Get her books. Show her your belly. Tell her the baby is in there. Talk to her about all that it means to be a sister.
She'll actually step quite naturally into that position, as its quite natural to have and be a sibling.
