Does this mean that Christianity has only truly existed since the Reformation in1500 AD or thenabouts? If not, why not?

Anyone who is having trouble working out why this is being asked, put the words catholicism and christianity into the search box at the top of Y!A and look at the results. This place is full or people who explicitly deny that Catholics are Christians. I'm not one of them.

The first Christian church was Jewish. Then in the fourth century Constantine and others got together and created the Catholic Church, compromising Christianity with Paganism in order to win converts within the Roman Empire. Constantine himself never gave up paganism; he still worshiped Mithra, the sun god. Protestantism is not necessarily Christian either. Even Luther's Church has a Catholic flavor to it --- sacraments and forms of Mary adoration.
So yes, really Christianity did exist but was flushed out by the Catholic Church which murdered many bible believing Christians in the process of solidifying its own power in the Inquisition and other efforts. And even throughout Catholic history, there were underground churches that did believe in the Bible.
And you're right Bad Liberal.
I don't believe that Catholicism is Christian. Part of being Christian is following the Bible. Paul says, "Cursed is anyone who preaches a different gospel than the one that is found in the Bible." The Catholic gospel differs from the gospel of the Bible, therefore it cannot be truly Christian.
There is no Mary, saints, priests, confessions, Popes mentioned. They are not needed to go to heaven.

I find this question quite ironic. I'm not saying all catholics but many of the ones that I've run across do everything possible to distance themselves from people who call themselves Christians. A lot of the Catholics I've met, when you ask them about their faith, will immediately tell you they are not "christian" but instead proudly proclaim that they are in fact Catholic. As if being catholic is more important than being a Christian!!! What a joke. If half of them actually participated in a real Christian service, where you are challenged to think, where you are being taught, where you actually bring the bible to church and take notes and study while the pastor teaches, instead of just standing, kneeling, genuflecting, reciting, reciting, reciting, reciting words that most of them don't even think about it, they might actually realize that they are in fact Christians.

And yeah, I expect to get a bunch of thumbs down from all the Catholics. Maybe just pray to your patron saint and he'll "intercede" on your behalf. Yeah, that'll do it....

Who says Catholicism is not Christianity?

Christianity- noun - Kris-chee-an-it-ee - A monotheistic religion based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Plural Christianities

Sounds like Catholicism fits in that description.
CHRISTianity. Catholics worship God, and they worship CHRIST.

Even a secular world will admit blatent truths about Godly matters. Very good observation. The almanacs and encyclopedias reveal the same truths that you reveal on your question. Good job and I thank you for it.
