Doesn't anyone believe in patriotic duty anymore?

I DO believe that there are SOME, and I can't even begen to express my gratitude to those people, but I'm talking about the people who do. It's extremely selfish and they should be ashamed of themselves.

I know college isn't cheap, but is it worth killing a man over? If you don't believe in this war, that's fine, but you shouldn't let money blind you into changing your mind. Period.

That's not TRUE patriotism. That's called joining the bandwagon. REAL patriots don't wait for a trajedy to occur and then jump on the patriotic bandwagon.

Many people have joined for educational benefits. They found out 5 years ago that this time the gamble wasn't such a good deal. From what/who I have seen, we are getting more enlistees due to "Patriotic Duty" than we are for "bennies".
In other words, paying for college has become secondary.

I joined out of patriotic duty, two months after 9-11

It just so happened I got over 100 credit hours while I was in training, so it kills 2 birds with one stone. The military is the best thing in the country.

That's why the gov't cut so many grants so that our young men and women would sign up. College ain't cheap, in case you haven't noticed. Two of my kids waited until they were 24 yrs. old so that they could get loans as independents. So far, they are 8k and 12k in debt. Patriotism? Where is our gov'ts'?

Since 9/11 we have had very few of the half-hearted 'only here for the college money' soldiers.

People today join to serve. (This may be a foreign concept to most people.)

Apparently you don't believe in the people who are doing their patriotic duty.

Everyone joins knowing they will be serving their country.

Some do, most don't. Besides, patriotism doesn't cut it in *this* war!
