I do believe that there is indeed what we so haltingly call an "afterlife."
More importantly, I believe that what we do in our "nowlife" will determine how and where we spend this afterlife. We have all been given a spiritual life that won't ever end. Human bodies are designed to be compatible with the physical demands of planet Earth, and when it is time for us to move on to another place that has been created for us, those bodies will die. John Donne expressed this truth so beautifully in his sonnet that is commonly known as "Death Be Not Proud." Maybe you can find time to read it.
I really love being alive, and I look forward to life's continuation when the planet Earth business is over. The Scriptures teach that God planned us "before the foundation of the Earth was laid." He gave us the same gifts that He Himself has. These gifts are wonderful now---creativity, the ability to love, sacrifice for others, and reason---but how wonderful will these attributes be when we are not encumbered by the constraints of human bumbling?
Someone once said the only bad thing about dying is that you have to be there when it happens. I guess that's so, but that part will take care of itself as God has planned. I am not afraid to live or to die because of the hope that I have in Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour. The great freedom that Jesus gives is that we can get out of bed each day and go forth boldly to see what new adventure God has planned for us. The next chapter will only be better if our trust is in God. Enjoy your nowlife! Romans 10.9

No, and the question should have been phrased as "an afterlife", not "the afterlife", as many ideas as to what the afterlife could be exist.

I don't know.
However, I believe it is a waste for people to go their entire lives believing they will only be truly happy when they die and the afterlife begins. If there is no afterlife, then those people spent their whole lives unhappy.

Without a doubt! Our souls, the essence of what makes us who we are, does not die. Some spirits wait for heaven, some remain here, between two worlds, while others transcend to a higher consciousness, depending on ones beliefs. I've witnessed remaining spirits, ie, ghosts. That's all the proof I need!

As Job of old ,, when we here that, "Ashes to Ashes, and Dust to Dust," It reminds of Longfellow, who said,, tell me not in mournful numbers,, life is just an empty dream! And the soul is dead that slumbers, And things are not what they seem. He said ,,, Yea , Life is real! life is earnest! And the grave is not its goal, for dust thou art ,, to dust returnest, was not spoken of the soul.. they call it A theophany, that when we leave here we go into somewhere else,,what ever it may be , I take the Apostle's word, when he said,, if this earthly tabernacle or dwelling place be dissolved, we have one already waiting to move in from this into that. Our own life is just a pattern,It's just a shadow, and not the real thing, its the negative side, it takes death to develop the picture. to put us back in the theophany we come from,, Mid Rendering Rocks and darkening skies, My saviour bowed his head and died, The opened veil revealed the way, To heavens joys and endless day,,
