Yeah, you always see that on here. People don't even take into consideration the quality of the answer, a lot of times. That's what annoys me about that system on here; it's interesting to see how many thumbs up or thumbs down you get, but more often than not, it feels like some kind of popularity contest instead of a thing where people are actually judging your answer fairly.

No it's not fair - but humanity is not mature enough to be fair - yet.
If person 1 does not like person 2 - how is anything that person 2 says have a chance to penetrate the mind set/shield of person 1?
No matter how logical; how is person 1 going to adjust his/her mind set against person 2?
Humans rarely are open minded enough after establishing a dislike for someone to grant they may have to rethink their dislike and reevaluate the person they don't like. Such a trait of maturity is very rare.
One hopes humanity can be more accommodating to and open for new ways of thinking/looking at an issue in the future.

No, it's not. I only give a thumbs down based on the actual answer or question.

I think people somehow feel they have power with the thumb button. Who knows if they like, dislike, person or quality of the question.

Well I gave you a thumbs up. I get reported, and usually it is because of my belief is different than theirs. I don't rant or call names, but someone likes to report, even when they have nothing to report about. But in the end, what can you do?

I have only given a thumbs down a few times...and it's been for inappropriate or really nasty and mean answers.

No it is not. I think one should rate the answer not only on quality but also whether or not you agree with the premise.

it is not fair to give someone a thumbs down because you don't like them. Jesus tells us in the bible that we should love on another.he says in john15:12-13,"this is my commandment that you love one another, as i have loved you. greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. so we must love in spite of. we dont have to like what they do but we have to love them as jesus loves us.
