Certain types of headaches are caused by blood vessels in the brain dilating (or opening up...letting more blood through). Caffeine helps to constrict or narrow the blood vessels, so in this way certain headaches go away. The problem is that with use of caffeine or other other headache medicines more than a few times per week, if you try to stop taking these medicines, you may get a headache (also called a medication rebound headache).

It dilates the blood vessels in your head which helps to relieve the pressure. Although, I find that the Excedrin Migraine does not have enough caffeine in them to fix my headaches. I usually add a cup of tea or coffee or a can of coke to the mix....that usually does the trick.
Excedrin Migraine not only has caffeine it it but also contain Tylenol and aspirin in it and I think it's well worth the money.

Caffeine has been known to restrict the blood vessels. This allows for less blood flow to the scalp area of the head. This is for relief of tension headaches. It sometimes works for migraine but not always. No matter what Excedrin says about it. The scientists have proven that caffeine works to relieve a tension headache.

What happens is that the caffiene helps open up the blood vessels which can relieve the pain from headaches which is mostly just caused my resctricting blood vessels in the brain. Instead of going out and buying a $7 bottle of excedrin, you could drink coffee or tea and it would have the same effect

Caffeine stimulates your circulatory system, therefore opening and closing the blood vessel to your brain. It also helps the central nervous system. I have migraine and used to take caffergot, which had caffeine in it.
