I can't tell you exactly but here is a online Ninja school!

Yes, Ninjutsu is a form of Martial Arts. It is VERY rare because there are simply very few people who teach it legitimately. Yeah, you can probably take those "online Ninja lessons" listed above and actually learn something CLOSE to a real Martial Art, but that is probably not Ninjutsu.
Stephen K. Hayes and his original instructor Masaaki Hatsumi are legit. Also a man named Bussey (sp)...can't think of his first name though. DOH! They have a great many published books about Ninjutsu and I suggest starting there. Mr Hayes has a school located in Dayton Ohio (actually Centerville I think...very close to where I used to live) so if you live in the area, you could probably contact him or visit the school. They DO teach combat techniques (Taijutsu) as well as using weapons like shuriken and swords, the art of invisibility (hiding and disguise) etc.
However, if you are seriously interested in Martial Arts and you do not HAPPEN to live inear Dayton Ohio, try a more typical version of Karate. Ninjutsu is a Japanese fighting art and so is Karate. A great many of the techniques are the same or VERY similar (a outisde block is an outside block, a front kick is a front kick). I would also suggest looking into Kobudo or Kobujitsu which is the study of the typical Martial Arts weaponry.
Becoming a "Ninja" just isn't gonna happen. What you see in movies doesn't exist and probably never did- at least not like that. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with learning the things that you see however. Karate and other Martial Arts will certainly help you in many facets of life, learning weapons is just flat out fun, and you could even take some acrobatics classes (plus there are pretty girls there ;-) By all means do some study, learn all you can. Learning ANY Martial Art can become a lifetime study, though, so remember that it's not ALL fun and games.
Hope this helps...

people have told me that ninjitsu takes anywhere from 6 to 8 years, or 10 to 14 years to master. Or even a life time. In the 14th century, ninjas would start there training, at childhood, but i'm sure a young adult could start training.

dude Ninjitsu has only been boiled down to the weaponless self defense techniques, and at the higher levels they incorporate the spiritual side of sword techniques.

the ONLY thing you'll be able to do is defend yourself if you're in a confrontation.

don't confuse the things you see on TV and in those old 80's movies as fact.

Naruto is ANIME, a fantasy storyline about the character, what they do on the show has NO applications here in the REAL world.

if there is a Ninjitsu school nearby, I suggest you go and watch a few classes to see if you like the self defense techniques they teach. and as far as recieveing your "first degree" Black belt in Ninjitsu, it'll prob'ly take up to 3-5 years if you stick with it.

Stephen K. Hayes has some great books out there. There are also some other great ninjitsu instructers in the United States. As you progress, to achieve you "Black" belt it will take you probably 3-5 years depending on your dedication to the martial arts.

Actually there are a lot of inconsistencies with the whole academy thing. As you said naruto had failed about 3 times before. Knowing this yo'd think that it just means naruto is older than everyone else. However Sasuke is older than naruto. The only possible explanation is that he started the academy 3 years prior to everyone else.

You'll never be one. Hatasumi Masaaki have stated that he'll take all info to the grave. Everything you see him or anyone teach is mostly samurai hands to hads combat. The rest is a fraud. I believe it's illegal to teach someone how to carry out stealth mission unless they're in military or something similar. End of the story.
