I would think they would feel totally exhausted and feel cheated that life has dealt them this set of cards. They probably ruminate, and plan the perfect way. All too often they succeed, which is a total shame that these people felt they couldn't reach out for the proper help.

Mainly the reason that got them to that stage in the first place. They just figure there is nothing to live for. Some think of family members they are leaving behind.I hope and pray this is just a question and you aren't thinking of committing suicide and just wondering what others think about before doing it.
If so stop and think one more time.As hard as life is sometimes, there is always one tiny spark left somewhere that you can hang onto.Maybe it is a friend or relative you feel you'll miss.If so go and tell them how you feel.Tell them you need someone to listen and understand what you are feeling.Point blank, tell them you need help with your feelings. They are real and no matter how big or small they are they are still real to you (or any other person) and they hurt and weigh you down.If this isn't you then it's for anyone else that may read this.Grab onto that little spark of hope and relive.

No one can tell you what someone was thinking just before they successfully committed suicide as they don't live to tell about it. The thought process leading up to a unsuccessful attempt is generally thought to be different to that leading up to a successful attempt (of course, there are exceptions, but usually the reasons people attempt suicide and the reasons they actually commit it are different). The closest I can find is this quote from a patient with a history of suicidal behavior:

"[A psychiatrist] asked me if i was suicidal, and I reluctantly told him yes. I did not particularize - since there seemed no need to - did not tell him that in truth many of the artifacts of my house had become potential devices for my own destruction: the attic rafters (and an outside maple or two) a means to hang myself, the garage a place to inhale carbon monoxide, the bathtub a vessel to receive the flow from my opened arteries. The kitchen knives in their draws had but one purpose for me. Death by heart attack seemed particularly inviting, absolving me as it would of active responsibility, and I had toyed with the idea of self-induced pneumonia - a long frigid, shirt-sleeved hike through the rainy woods. nor had I overlooked an ostensible accident... by walking in front of a truck on the highway nearby... Such hideous fantasies, which cause well people to shudder, are to the deeply depressed mind what lascivious daydreams are to persons of robust sexuality."

I heard that in 99% of cases where a person survived jumping off a bridge, the predominant thought in their brain on the way down was "damn, I wish I hadn't done that!!"
