You may want to try the science diet light food. It's a great product and about the best brand on dog food there is. It's made by hills. If this doesn't solve the problem or you don't see any results after a period of time, ask your vet about a prescription food called RD which stands for reducing diet. It is a special food designed to help obese dogs loose weight. It's also made by hills. It is fairly expensive but definatly worth it. Excess weight is harder on your dogs joints and can make her arthritis worse. Also try to exercise her some but don't push her. when she gets tires let her stop and rest. I hope this helped.

Science Diet has a food available at your Vet's office called r/d. It is a high fiber food that helps the dog feel full while cutting calories. Also, feed exactly as instructed on the bag and do not feed any treats. Some moderate exercise will be helpful also. You may want to look into a glucosamine supplement for the arthritis.

I assume you've had her to her vet and he is concerned about her weight. Has he put her on a med for her arthritis yet? Even a dog with arthritis has to keep walking or it will get worse. I would get his input first.
There are several good weight control foods. The main thing is to keep her exercised while following a diet plan. I would think her vet is the best authority.

If you are free-feeding your dog, stop! Between 6-12 weeks feed 3 times a day. Between 12 weeks and 1 year feed twice a day. From 1 year on feed once a day.

Science Diet offers a diet food that works really well. Don't offer more than one treat a day either. And take your dog walking daily. My overweight pomeranian lost 12 pounds pretty quickly doing these things.
