The spectrum of light goes from Gamma,x-ray,visible,IR, to radio waves. The smaller the wave length the stronger energy. And Nasa has a scope for all of them. When you design a telescope the idea is to measure the interaction of energy and matter. The anatomic matter that forms the telescope has to interpret the energy emited by astronomical objects.
