You want to be a perfectionist, but somehow you now feel this is putting a lot of pressure on yourself. Just look around and you can see a lot of imperfections everywhere, and ask yourself are people suffering from them. Think about what an easier carefree life you could enjoy instead of being frustrated over the little things. You know constant frustration is not good for your health and will age you faster than if you take life a little bit easier.

It's kinda funny how sometimes we annoy ourselves. I complain too much and I get annoyed with it so I know how you must feel.
I guess my suggestion would practice looking beyond the surface of things (obviously don't eat food that's gone bad) but maybe think about people who would really enjoy eating the food you are not thankful for or wearing just any pair of shoes. It's cheesy but it just sounds like you are on a bit of a high horse and just need to bring it down and be more thankful.

I don't think I'd eat ham after it's been there a week, either. I wouldn't eat dinner if it looks nasty. I don't think I'd buy shoes that weren't perfect... are you sure you're picky?

I think some of the other suggestions you've gotten were good. One thing that might help is to just think of all the great blessings you have in your life. I mean, if you can turn on the tap and clean water comes out and you have food in your pantry, you're doing pretty well in comparison to a lot of people in the world!

Just going on the examples you gave, I don't perceive that you are being unreasonable, however you apparently feel you are so i would suggest making an effort to be content w/less than perfect situations. Appreciate and recognize the effort that someone put into making a meal.

I too am unhappy with myself alot of the time. I am judgemental and critical and can't seem to stop and it's me that it bothers more than anybody else, but it does help like this to admit to it, so that maybe I can lighten up a little. Naming it is half the battle.

Try to be more openminded and not so ungrateful for what you get in the first place. but you don't seem all that picky, I'm pretty much the same way. All I can say, you cannot control anything...but yourself.

dont. it is a common idea that people should "settle" but i cant agree. never lower your standards for anyone, you'll end up unhappy. but know that the higher your standards are, the longer it may take to find someone who meets them. I should add, I am talking about personality, not looks!
