My friend squirted the cat with a spray bottle every time he climbed the tree. The cat will learn soon within a few squirts.

Well, in my experience, I've learned that cats are attracted to either the smell of the tree (if it's real), or the sparkly ornaments & lights. I have a 2 year old cat, and she has never climbed up into our tree, but not all cat owners are so lucky. Maybe you should try and keep your cat out of that room, or just make sure that all the ornaments & the tree are secure... after all animals deserve to have fun at Christmas too.

We secured the tree to the wall with a cable. And then we used a water spray bottle to spray the cat everytime he got near the tree.We also cut off a branch when trimming the tree and let him play with it.This year we are using a fake tree because my son has allergies to the others. So We will see. Good Luck.

First, get a better christmas tree stand. :) We have one that's huge, but it's sturdy (example in link below @ target.com)-- and they are cheap, target's is $20. We have 2 cats and neither can make it even budge a tiny bit!
Spray Bitter Apple around the base of the tree- it's cheap too and you can get it at pet stores. Squirt bottles are great for training too! Best of all is to redirect her attention - when you see her going for the tree, say "no" loudly and distract her with a toy it's OK to play with instead. She'll learn, be patient!!

Spray the cat with water every time she jumps on the tree. When you go to work don't leave the cat with the tree alone keep her in a pin while you are gone if you want to keep your tree.

You can get this smelly (to cats) stuff at a pet store and spray it around the tree and that will keep the cat away.

We use a plant hanger hook and tie the tree to the ceiling. Maybe that would work for you cuz you can't watch 24/7.
