I've been trying for more than 6 months to gain at least 5 pounds. I'm only about 100lb, and I am soooo skinny. I want to gain weight.
Does anyone know how? I have a really HIGH metabolism. It is hard to gain weight and keep it. The most i've ever weighed was 103lb.

I am the EXACT same way!

I have been 100 lbs for so long...doctors have ran thyroid tests and other tests also.

Have you had your doctor test you for anything that could be the cause?

I was just diagnosed a year ago with lymphocytic colitis - my body has a hard time retaining nutrient and water. My doctor now thinks this may be a reason WHY I can't gain weight. If you have something wrong with your gastrointestinal tract, it may be a cause.

My doctors haven't really ever told me a way to gain weight - the only thing they've said is to go on a "high calorie diet" - basically just eat, eat, eat (healthy stuff of course, not junk food completely).

I've gained weight doing that...not a whole lot and it takes a LONG time - so have patience; it might not happen in even a year.

Good luck!

Figure out what your daily calorie intake should be according to your BMR and activity level. That intake level is what you need to take in to stay at your current weight. Keep your activity level the same, and take in about 20% more calories.

Just for example- lets say that with my BMR adjusted for activity level is 2000 calories. If i take in 2000 calories, I'm not going to gain or lose any weight. 20% of 2000 would be 400 cals, so I should shoot for 2400 calories per day. If you are exercising and weight training, those extra calories will be used to build lean muscle tissue.

Here's a site with a BMR caculator that you can adjust for your activity level:

First I would have to ask you how old are you? If you are between 17-20 years then you might have to wait a few more years until your metabolism slows down. (Which it does for everyone) If you are over 20 yrs then I would say do more weight lifting & cut down your cardio workout slightly. Eat a lot of carbs & protein with of coarse your mix of vegetables and you should see results in three months. (No magic pills or anything of the sort.)

Eat foods with alot of carbs (like pasta) and alot of protien (like tuna) Also dietary supplements will help, like a Weight Gainer. (Best place to find it is at GNC) Also, with this diet, if you work out, you'll gain muscle mass, which weighs more than body fat. You also need to keep a very steady regiment, eating 3 meals a day, at the same time everyday. (i.e. Breakfast @0800hrs, Lunch @ 1130-1200hrs, and Dinner @ 1700hrs)

Maybe try diet supplements like boost or ensure with you meals to add calories to your daily diet. You might also want to ask your Dr. so you you make sure you do it in a healthy way and not by eating high fat foods that can cause high cholesterol and other health problems

My firend is the same way. What she would do is eat alot of fatty food. (Do not do this it will make your motab. faster.) Try going to the hospital and they should prescride you with medication that will help you gain weight. Also follow the weight loss guidline.

Eat as much as you can. Fatty foods such as butter and meat, and fry every thing on high eat in alot of oil...and eat a balance meal with lots of proeteins and vitamins. Stop taking perscription meds (unless your life depends on it)
