lack of faith.

God is unbelieveable because of more than just evidence or the poor example presented by many (but not all) of the followers. God becomes unbelieveable when the stories contradict each other, when the gospels make no sense, and any rational, thinking person can't buy into the "book."

God becomes unbelieveable when the concepts are all oxymorons, when the prince of peace and "turn the other cheek" whips people he does not approve of. God becomes unbelieveable when church's practice the murder of women and children, the rich can buy "indulgences" into heaven, and the atonement only counts if you do what a human says.

Sorry... this is too long. I could keep going! The reasons to NOT believe go way beyond evidence and followers. The very essence of established religion is on par with the essence of "Eau de Skunk."

If it smells like a rat.... you get the picture. Thanks if you bothered to read this rant!

First, you have to define the term "God." The problem with most theists is that this term is a moving target.

In addition, because there is no evidence either for or against the existence of God, you cannot use deductive logic (a+b=c; therefore c-b=a). You can only reach a conclusion by inductive reasoning using the balance of evidence (90% of A is also B; C is B, so the chances are 90% that C is also A).

I will assert (and others may shoot this down) that the only RELEVANT definition of God states that he intervenes to circumvent natural laws.

If God circumvents natural laws, then it is impossible to understand natural laws. All scientific findings would have to include the stipulation, "it is also possible that these results are an act of God, a miracle, thereby making our research meaningless."

However, since we have been able to expand our knowledge of natural laws (evidenced by every appliance in your kitchen), the scientific method works in this discovery. And the likely conclusion is that God, at least the intervening kind, does not exist.

Additionally, if God is defined as all loving, all powerful, and all knowing, then it is impossible to explain suffering. Either God is not all loving (he acts sadistically), not all powerful (he cannot prevent suffering), or not all knowing (he created suffering by mistake because he didn't know the consequences of his actions).

If God is less than these and/or does not intervene in our existence, then he is either non-existent or irrelevant. The classic argument is that I cannot prove that a china teapot is orbiting the sun directly across from the earth's orbit. But while I cannot prove this is not true, the evidence against it is compelling.

The evidence against God is equally compelling, and while it is not possible to prove beyond any doubt, it makes more sense to live your life as if there were not God.

It is more compelling to me that humans have invented God to reflect the thoughts of the ruling powers in a particular time. Because humans are always looking for reasons, when none are found, it was the natural inclination to declare the cause to be "God" (or gods). As the faith grew, miracles and laws have been ascribed to this Divinity, and an orthodoxy grows up around it.

Successful religions over the long run also are accompanied by some level of economic well-being to the populace. Unsuccessful ones are seen as false because they don't lead to improved lives.

Now it seems unhelpful to believe in such superstition. The only matters that aid in our ongoing well being are work, location, health, sustenance, and pure, blind luck.

So, that's why I find God unbelievable. And you know what? It's okay if you do believe God does exists.

I think a lot of people...maybe me included might say that there is plenty of evidence. It is true that he is not represented in a good way by so many...that is why I don't believe in religion...religion is of mankind not God. I also think that it really depends on how you look at certain things and this is how I explain it to my children. Imagine if a person was born in a room with no windows and all his/her life never got to venture outside...never even caught a glimpse of the outside world and then one day when he/she became an adult the other room dwellers started to talk of things called trees...how unbelievable would that seem to that person. You see it's all relative...something which is as real and common as a tree could seem absolutely unbelievable to you if you had never been exposed to it. We find the whole God thing SO amazing...just as we would marvel at and maybe disbelieve in trees if we were in that situation. It just all depends on your view.

to placed it purely: technology has a good number of information for what it says and is keen to modify as extra information is got here upon, faith on the different hand believes that it got here about one way and believes that scientists are thinking a conspiracy idea purely because faith has traditionally persecuted technology, and then is going on to no longer believe any information. Edit: even extra purely, all of us comprehend that gravity works because we drop something and it falls. although some issues take very much of studying and knowledge to understand why and how they artwork. in this mild, the "huge bang" looks very complicated and unreasonable, although the further you study the universe and what it really is doing, besides as different options, the further it really is smart. if you're chuffed with purely wondering that it became an explosion from no longer something, then you will be doomed with believing it really is unreasonable; purely like you'll imagine that a heavier merchandise will fall swifter than a mild one even even as they fall on a similar %. Edit: till you study the information, you won't be able to say what has been proved or no longer. opposite to uneducated conception, technology has proved many stuff and keeps to finish that. perchance understating why there are not any extra "Renaissance adult men" anymore would help.

Lack of evidence it good enough for me. I really, really want to believe, but unfortunately there simply isn't the slightest reason whatsoever to do so. Sigh.

Some of his followers are a pretty repellent bunch though. In that I include Bush, Blair and Bin Laden. They can't all be right, but they can all be wrong.

No it is not lack of evidence. Or the way we follow God. It is your chose to believe this way. So my answer is YOU! I pray that God has Mercy on your soul. There will be no more Mercy when it is time to meet god face to face.

Believing in God is not an intellectual problem it is a moral problem. People like you use both lack of evidence and the character of His followers as reasons to not believe in Him instead of looking at the real problem. YOU.

In as much as I was not around to see how everything came into being (and neither were you),I say, "I don't know ..... YET!" To assume that some god, my less than intellectual ancestors made up, instantaneously farted the universe into being, is absurd
