Yes, it is called an 'arrest record.' It doesn't mean that you were convicted, the report merely states that you were arrested. The rationale is that people that are involved with trouble will frequently get arrested, yet may have the cunning to get out of a conviction. The arrest record allows the police to know who may be a bad guy even if he wiggled out of say ten to fifteen arrests. A guy that gets arrested that many times can't possibly be a completely good guy. Yet ... you can have your arrest record cleansed. A man in California was arrested fifteen times in two years because he looked like a gang member of the area: dread locks and street clothes. He sued the california police department because the arrests were working against him in employment ventures. He won 2 million dollars. And his record was cleared.

Arrested leads to: either you get bailed (come back later) or you get charged on the spot or they let you go.
If you get charged with a crime then you go to court.
At court either you are guilty or not guilty.
Being convicted (found guilty) is when you get the criminal record.
Normally. Sometimes they will not charge you but just caution you. This can go on the record as well.
Going to jail is not the thing, sometimes when you get found guilty you still have a record but the penalty might be a fine or something like community service.

Being arrested and being Charged are two very different things. Charges are added to your record, not being arrested. Police officers can arrest for detainment to complete an investigation and charges may follow or they may just release you.

Maybe, did they book you? Sometimes they can take you to the police station, and not file charges, then you probably won't have a record.
