MAT 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
-----------
Astromical bodies are spherical, and you cannot see the entire exterior surface from anyplace. The kingdoms of Egypt, China, Greece, Crete, sections of Asia Minor, India, Maya (in Mexico), Carthage (North Africa), Rome (Italy), Korea, and other settlements from these kingdoms of the world were widely distributed.

Dear Darlene,
Did you know that God is the author of the Bible? God cannot lie! He cannot sin! But you are a little human being who was born in sins and trespasses. Your brain is so small. Do you know that God spoke and brought this entire universe into existence? And He keeps everything in its proper orbit. Not one single doctor can give you a reason why the organ we call a heart, keeps on beating year in and year out.
Do you know that when God, the Lord Jesus Christ, returns, the Bible tells us that "every eye shall see him." I do not know how He will do that but it ABSOLUTELY WILL HAPPEN! And guess what little Darlene, you are going to see Him. Do you think He is going to be pleased that you said there is a lie in His book?
I would strongly suggest that you sit down and begin reading the Bible slowly, and prayerfully asking the LORD o have mercy on you. Oh, and Darlene, from everything we read in the Bible it appears that you will not have to wait so long before you meet the Lord. It seems that 2011 will be the year that Christ returns and the end of the world. "And ye shall know the truthm and the truth shall make you free."

You are such a big silly.Jesus was transported to be alone not to increase the distance of Hid visibility. A vision was used and it not only included the existing kingdoms but all future kingdoms. The whole thing might have been a vision, He might not have ever left the mushroom patch. Have you no imagenation.

I have studied the Bible for well over half a century and have never found that God ever lied. The liar is the other guy that people listen to.
John 8:43-47
43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? 47 He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."

Satan has power. What part bugs you the most, the part where he (satan) TAKES the Lord somewhere or just the imagery of the whole scene? Satan had power to show things and to cause things to happen during this period of time. By the time the cross arrives, Satan is handicapped. I do not believe it is a metaphor or symbolic language, but revealed to the MIND of Christ, the Lord all the power in the whole world all at once in a flash by the power of Satan.
What is more important is the Lord's answer to him.

This is one of those verses like so many others that are explained away as "oh they meant that as a metaphor, or as a poetic, symbolic way of saying something, but that doesn't mean it's not true." Also I have been told that since Jesus was God and omnipotent, he has the ability to see everything even on the surface of a spherical body...although we don't understand it as humans.
These are real answers I have been told on this verse.
They have an answer to every challenge or different way of thinking, even if it's a stretch, a lie, an excuse, etc. That's why I stopped asking them.

Do you honestly think that the purpose of inspiration is to tell you whether the earth was flat or spherical?
The purpose of inspiration is to bring you to knowledge of God so that you may have eternal life (see 2 Timothy 3:15,16) What about the above passage has anything to do with your salvation? Let's not major in minors.

Jesus and his associates were Hellenized Jews. They were well aware the world was round, a thing the Greek world had known for hundreds of years already (as evidenced by Ptolemy.)
You're worrying about details, when the story is about the message... Jesus was tempted with the worldly things - all of them. He stuck with the kingdom of God.

First you are discussing the father of lies who I am certain can do illusions as well as David Copperfield. And if you were not around at that time, how do you know the actual layout of landmasses at that time? Are you sure this is the best lie you can come up with to disprove?

The Bible is allegorical. What this passage is saying that Satan put forward a desire to make him want to rule all the kingdoms on earth. The high mountain meaning he was arrognant, on his high horse, think of President Bush.

Hmm...seems god thought the world was flat for a good while. Talking about the four corners of the earth in the bible also. Metaphorical...I don't think people who said that have read the way it's stated, but I have and I suggest they do. And if it is metaphorical, then jesus rising from the dead is most definately metaphorical also.
