Use a small tube jig. Dark colors on the body, lighter colors on the tail. Use a 1/16 or smaller lead head. Place a pear shaped bobber about 2-4 feet above the jig. Cast and make short twitches back to the shore or boat. Pause between twitches. If the bobber goes down you know what to do.

The bait you are using is way too big and it is the wrong thing. Use Crappie Minnows, or fresh water shrimp. These shrimp are less than an inch long.
Jigs also work well. I often use a combination of a jig and then about 12 inches above that, I use a live minnow.
Use line that is no larger than 6 lb test and use a small Quill bobber. The smaller the bobber, the more fish you will catch.

you can use anything you want but if your not where the fish are your not gonna catch any. how do you know your on crappie. if your fishing a lake try to fish around 15 to 25 ft. deep unless their spawning. if you can find irregularities in the bottom and some rocks or brush to go with them you should find some crappie. i use a mann-o-lure to locate them and then switch to jigs or minnows. just vertical jig the mann-o-lure over spots you feel might have crappie and you will feel them tick it, or knock the snot out of it.

I've always done well with about a 1 inch chunk of nightcrawler. I catch them either still fishing or trolling for trout with that. While trolling I usually use a wedding band, a bunch of red beads and a brass spinner on a short leader.

If you want to catch crappy, try fising in the toilet. If you want to catch crappie, use minnows, or small jigs. Jigs with curly tails seem to work pretty good, and minnows are killer for crappie.

try using plastics grubs, real grubs, and real worms...those are what crappie like best. You will need to fish this 10-20 feet deep.
