It won't be easy, but if they can get up to speed with the new car quickly, he'll be in the hunt. And why are race fans still crying about the formation of a new race series in America? Man, how long ago was that? Race fans should be happy now that there are more races to go to and see on TV. The biggest negative I see so far is a lack of big time sponsorship to help fund more race teams and races. There's only so many companies willing to shell out the kind of money top level racing requires. Both the Champ Car ad IRL schedules look very interesting next year. I can't wait!

Sebastien Bourdaus is by far the best driver in the Champ Car series and I'm not sure there is a real challenger standing between him and a fourth successive driving title.
I'll reserve judgment on the new Panoz chassis until it has a lot of test miles on it, however, something tells me it's a poor substitute for the one it's replacing, the trusty Lola.
As for having two major open-wheel series', I tend to agree with you; there is more racing to watch and that's not such a bad thing1

Bourdais will certainly be in the hunt for the championship, but it's way too early to hand him the Vanderbilt Cup just yet.

For starters, Bourdais has been lucky in that Newman-Haas has given him incredible reliability for the last three seasons. With a new car, that seems far less likely, and they are due for some bad luck.

Aside from that, where Justin Wilson ends up will be a big factor. Wilson is every bit as good as Bourdais; what's been holding him back is the technical program at RuSport. If he ends up with Forsythe, he's got to be even odds with Bourdais for the 2007 championship.

I write for an autoracing website that, as an IRL/OWRS fan you've certainly heard of.

I didn't know that there were any other open-wheeled fans left! Gosh...

Yes, Sebastian has a great shot at winning the OWRS / CHAMP / CART championship. First, everyone else has gone to NASCAR. Second, no one is interested in taking him to F1. Third, Paul Tracy is well past his prime (and is going NASCAR if he can). By default, unless there is some rookie phenom, he'll win his 4th.

Justin Wilson is his only serious challenger, now that A J Allmendinger has moved on to stock cars. I think Bourdais will do it again.
