This is probably his first time ever going out with someone he really liked. Maybe he doesn't know what to do. This kind of thing happens all the time. Give him a little time and if he doesn't come around then try to spark conversation with him

You've answered your own question really: He's very shy and quiet.
It may be hard for him to openly or publically admit to liking you or wanting to be your boyfriend. His social and/or romantic confidence may also be a little low. And now that someone's pointed out that you're a "couple" he's embarrassed--but in a good and sweet way.
You're going to have to make the first moves here and let him know that it's all okay, you like him, and are interested in being his gf. You may even have to ask him to be your bf, but go for it if that's what you want.

Maybe his friend did it for him. If the guy is shy, then he needed that extra push. I would just accpet it, be happy, and make him feel loved. Give him time to open up and im sure you will be happier than ever. If not, then there are always more fish in tha sea yano!.. go with the flow..its much easier.
Congrats on the B/f hun lol

Honestly, I can only think of two reasons he's being shy. One, he went out with you and believes he doesnt want to be with you. Two, he's just shy about the advancement of your relationship. I think the only way to know for sure is to ask him point blank, "What are you thinking about the whole 'us' thing? Is there an 'us' or are we just friends?" Make sure you tell him you want a yes or no answer! No 'sure's allowed.

you answered your own question...he is shy , has a hard time talking to the opposite sex, he said ..sure...because it was the only response he could muster at the moment...he may not express it well but on the inside he is happy as can be that you are a couple....give him time and a little lattitude and he will begin to loosen up. I was a shy person in my youth too.

He's probably overwhelmed with his feelings for you (being shy and all that). Whatever you do, do NOT wear spangles the next time you go out. Spangles and shy guys is like oil and water, they do not mix and he will run screaming from the room.
Even tho spangles are BACK!!

ok! so you want me to tell you that this nice shy guy has accepted you as his partner silently, but may be didn't think of confirming it from you! If you have doubts/objections then please go and talk to him about it! Being nice and shy doesn't help always!! But if you think this blissful phase of happiness and full of unsaid things is making you feel good then ENJOY!!!!!
Go out with him again! & hug n kiss him!!

Perhaps he wasn't ready to hear his friend refer to you two as a "couple" yet? I don't think theres anything serisouly wrong if hes extremly quiet, some guys are just like that. But if you're honestly worried, ask him whats wrong.

the man doesn't know what he wants.....i'd say talk to him before jumping into anything....as a guy i know what i want, and if im unsure about something i'll think about it until i know what i want to do.....so either get a yes or no out of him about your status or move on...because if the relationship starts on unsure terms everything will be downhill from there

You said he is shy. If you get into a relationship with him maybe you can bring him out of his shell.
