Even though Pres Bush has vowed an all volunteer army, he has possibly put the country in a situation where a future president may have to institute the draft, becoming the fall guy.
What do you think the "No Child Left Behind Campaign" was all about? In order for a school to qualify for a certain amount of funding, the school is required to give the names of all juniors and seniors. If is funding with a tracking system attacheds to names now, then it can be used as a prelude to a draft later.
Another perspective that makes me say, "No", is the advancement of our weapons systems. Our arsenal is getting advanced to the point that is it will require a smaller, yet intellegent force of people needed for the military. Anytime you hear that computers are taking over, that is true for the military as well.
If Uncle Sam can continue to offer its current incentives, I would have to say no, otherwise 15 to 20 years definitely a draft would seem a reality.

The Military does NOT want a Draft.
The quality of the people would be much much lower.
The Military are better educated and have a higher intelligence than the average person.
They are the Cream of the Crop.
Can you imagine these little whiny Liberals being drafted that are sooooo frightened of the draft?
The Military does not want whiners like that!

Probably not. I have said it before and will say it again though, I feel that we would well served as a nation if we instituted a policy of mandatory (as in no exceptions) federal service where all citizen serve their country in some way be it the military, work in hospitals, public works, or something which contributed to the common good. Too many young people today take our country for granted and never contribute anything to help compensate for everything they get.

I don't think so. The only way that there would be a draft, and even then I don't think it would be needed, and that is if we pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan and they come and attack us. We won't need the draft, because I feel that every able man and woman would be willing to protect their country and families against terrorists.

there is a few confusion over what 'the draft' is. that's referred to as "Selective service", and likely, united statesa. reserves the right to call all in high quality condition men a lengthy time period 18-28 into protection rigidity service contained in the kind of a nationwide emergency. although at this element it will be political suicide for something decrease than overseas squaddies occupying US soil. That suggested, the selective service registration probable isn't what you imagine it really is. the authorities already knows who you're, the position you stay, and so on. they have your tax archives, voter registration, DMV information, and so on. Selective service isn't to "placed you contained in the gadget". you're already contained in the gadget. Selective service registration is purely to surely come across you as "John Smith #241" out of all the different John Smiths available. Will you get in worry in case you do not turn contained in the cardboard? No. you would purely initiate getting bombarded with reminder notices to fill out the cardboard and go back it each and every time you probably did any kind of authorities registration (vote, DMV, document your taxes, and so on). the authorities purely fines the human beings who refuse to fill out the cardboard. Selective service became once about surely putting you contained in the gadget, yet that became decrease back even as computers ran on punch playing cards. immediately that's only a formality because... properly... it would fee extra money to get rid of the gadget than to easily save it operational. authorities bureaucratic organizations are allergic to modify.

If America contiinues to stay in the Middle East and full fledged war breaks out, yes, there will be a draft and I am afraid it will be in 2007. Hopefully, our Soldiers will come home soon.

The military does not want a draft.
The voters don't want a draft.
99.99% of Congress doesn't want a draft.
I'm pretty sure that, barring another huge war (ie, WW2) that there won't be another draft.
