I am a pretty low maintence girl and the guy i'm with can be a bit inconsiderate and selfish.
Honestly normally it doesnt bother me because im not with him to get gifts and what not but sometimes it does because every once and a while it gets pretty bad (he can get VERY selfish/inconsiderate) when i talk to him abuot it he says that he feels bad but never really does anything to fix it.
what can i do? i dont want him to be some completely selfless person that's not who he is and not why i love him, i just want him to think of himself a little less often when it comes to big things.
please dont tell me to just leave him its not THAT big of a deal.

It's a very big deal.It doesn't take a lot of money or any money to show some one you love that you are thinking of them.When he ignores you and you allow it you say it's alright and it isn't.I was in that situation before and I never asked for anything and that's what I got nothing.You show men how to treat you by accepting any old treatment and making excuses as to why you feel so neglected.It's a very big deal and you need to cut him loose,he's only interested in the comfort you provide.Screw EM"

He doesn't see his selfishness and inconsideration as a problem. If he did, he would change that about himself. He's telling you what you want to hear. Either you keep putting up with this or dump him. You will never change him.

a person is what they do; so he really IS....
don't try to change him!! However, stop being so giving of yourself, ask him to help more, etc..., etc....
don't do all the "little" things you used to and when he asks why, just tell him, "does that make you feel unloved?"
force him to be in your shoes!1
And just love him!!

if you don't want to leave him, then talk to him about it. try to get him to understand that thinking of someone else for a change (even for a moment) matters.

you can look at his future by looking at his past. you have done talked to him about the problem and nothing has changed. if its not that big of a deal then why bother to post it..............
