Well....my house is a perfect case-study. My wife is a financial planner/CPA....I'm a Priest.
Last year I made $14,550.00
She made roughly twenty-times that amount.
You do the math.

In the long run religion is more profitable, you can't take money with you when you die.
From a business/financial point of view banking is more profitable.

Hmmm, if you check the biggest money making industries in any country, they are Banks.
If you ask most of the ministers (not including the superchurch, and Televangelists), you will find they make a lot less money than most business men, even though most ordained ministers go to school for longer than your typical business man. (Most ordained ministers get a bachelor's degree, plus seminary training).
How do I know? I'm a daughter of a preacher who worked a full time job, and know ministers of various denominations.
To say all ministers and churches are profitable is like saying all businesses and heads of companies are profitable. Some are, but not the majority.

Religion. You hand the responsibility for payoff to someone else, and your disappointed customers have no way to come back and get a refund.
