It goes back to the Macabees. I'm not too clear which is which, but I think that the pharisees were with the last of the Macabees.

You have to look at the time where there was a "priestly" practice of Judaism (i.e., temple sacrifice) and a "law-based" practice. that's really where the "split" began.

Sadducees denied the resurrection.

historians have been auguring about that for centuries.

One thing we know for sure that it was around in 250BCE as for before that we have no clue.
